Have you ever run out of time and skipped revising a concept because you thought you could still remember it only to get to exams and boom! 4 questions from that same area and you panic because you were wrong; you did not master it well enough! This is among many other scenarios that make students fail their exams and I want to highlight some reasons why getting a tutor earlier on in the semester can help avoid such.

1. The benefit of a longer time to revise course concepts.
Going through the course material with a tutor at the start of the semester will give you ample time to familiarize with the content , identify your mistakes and adequately master the concepts. Since you are most likely dealing with other things in your life, a tutor will help you learn the technicalities of your course in small chunks as it builds up over time.
2. Higher chance of achieving consistent good grades.
Hiring a tutor gives you a chance for a private 1-1 session where you can ask as many questions as you want. This makes it possible for the tutor to identify the errors you are making and point them out before it is too late. By correcting these mistakes early, you are most likely to avoid them in exams hence increasing your chances of scoring highly and achieving your academic goals.
3. Hiring a private tutor is a way of Investing in Yourself.
What a better way to put your money to good use, save time and enhance your knowledge than letting someone who is skilled in your subject to help you fully master it. An excellent tutor would most likely have done the subject before and will be in a position to give you useful tips and trick to learn it easily and quickly.
4. You will enjoy the perks of building a rapport e.g. having priority during busy exam seasons.
Starting sessions with your tutor at the beginning of the semester gives you a chance to know each other and build a good relationship. During midterms and finals seasons, the students' demand for tutoring can be overwhelming. As a tutor myself, I always want to see my students succeed and I don't hesitate to go above and beyond. I am most likely to give priority to students I work with throughout the semester. A great tutor who wants to help you will create time in their busy schedules or even work a little late into the night with their returning tutees.
5. A tutor will keep you accountable.
Don't we all need a little push sometimes when we are dragging our feet or lagging behind on our schedules? Your private tutor will be your means of accountability. Meeting occasionally will help him/her/them know what needs to be completed, know the complexity of the assignment or homework and help you figure it out before that 'Sunday at 11:59 pm' due date. This will prevent cases like " Hi Betty, I desperately need your help!!! I have a 2-hr Finance assignment that is due in 45 mins and I just got started. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!! " In case you are wondering if this is true, yes it is and I get these more often than you may think. So as a student ,book your Mathematics, Chemistry or Corporate Finance tutor early enough and give yourself a chance to make that new semester academic goal a reality.
